Where did you get the stock bumper? I am looking to return to stock bumpers with our 62. And, I love the stripes. Nice rigs all around.

I bought the front one used from someone off Craigslist a few hours away. I think Cityracer sells them new, as well as Toyota.

Nice write up and great looking cruiser! Do you have any idea what that rear bumper is? Thanks

This story tells me that buying a 62 for my wife isn’t a bad idea.

This story would not be great without thanking the ones whom really made it happen.

After the engine seized, I spoke with Rory at @RocketCityCrzrs and we did some bartering for a 66 FJ40 I had sitting in my barn. It wasn't more than 6 weeks later and Rory and Ande @Voodoocruisers showed up at my house with a trailer holding a freshly rebuilt 3FE that Rory had built. Knowing they were arriving that day, I had some help from my daughters getting the 66 out of the barn:

I called my good buddy Patrick @dogfishlake and he came up to visit that day as well. Rory and Ande arrived a little after noon. We introduced ourselves to each other (well, it was the first time I had ever met Rory and Ande), talked cruisers for about 15 minutes, then decided we should unload the engine from the trailer.

We got the engine into the barn next to the fateful 62, then had some bourbon and stared at our efforts. I don't think they had been at my home more than an hour or so, and Rory said "Well, we may as well get this thing installed". So, the four of us started working right away. Thankfully, I had pulled the old engine out prior to their arrival.

We ate some dinner and dove right in. About 8 o'clock that evening Pat decided it wouldn't be a true trip to Michigan without some trail riding, so the four of us and my wife piled in Pat's 80 and did some two tracking. A couple pics from that event:

We got back to the house around 10 that night and I assumed it was time for bed. We walked back into the barn, and Rory or Ande said something along the lines of "Well, let's finish this b*#& up!" So, we dove back in and worked until midnight or so. By then we had the installation 95% done.

We finally crashed around 1am. Rory and Ande got up around 6am and headed south. They weren't here more than 18 hours, but it was one of my favorite cruiser times.

I snapped one picture of cruisers before loading the 66 on Rory's trailer:

Over the course of their time here, we had many laughs, a plethora of shenanigans, and drank much bourbon. This community is amazing, the people are amazing, and I absolutely love making new friends along the way.

Great story and SUPER good folks.👍

That was so much fun! I enjoyed the look on everyone’s face when I buried my 80 in that mudhole with the lockers engaged. Came to a dead stop and I announced that my winch was broke. The 80 didn’t disappoint, it backed right out.
We gotta go invade those hooligans on their turf now.

Forgot all about that! Should have been the headline of the story :)

We need updates.
Nothing exciting to update on this one. Haven’t done anything to it other than new tires. Needs a better stereo.
We’ve put about 10k miles on it and have driven it on many 4 hour trips.
I think next weekend it’s getting driven to the U.P. for a fellow cruiser brothers wedding.

I do have another 62 that I should do a build thread on. It’s the spawn of this one, literally.
