Hi

I am removing a steering box from a 1996 80 Series and am replacing it with a rebuilt unit.

I don't know how to make the shaft positions on the new box match those of the old box.

One thought I had, but I don't know if it will work is to turn the steering wheel all the way to one side (left or right), mark where the pitman arm is before removing it, then make sure the new box is also all the way to the same side and the pitman arm in the same position.

It seems though, that if I am off by even one tooth on either shaft, it will screw the whole thing up.

Right now the tie rod end is removed from the pitman arm, but otherwise the old box is still installed. I want to make sure I know how to put the new box in before I go any further.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks . . . Brian
