I need new knuckle bearings, the old ones are KOYO 30303D.
ordered new ones from parts house, they are NTN 4T 30303.
the taper on the rollers is different, will these work or should I get some from SOR? ???

Replace the cone and the cup together, and you should be fine....but what 'parts house' did these come from?

I knew i could count on your vast knowledge steve.
big A auto, right across the street from my shop, I like to do business locally(small town guy)
I found what looks like the correct bearing on www.cruiserparts.com, they are cheaper, so I might take these back.

Did you get the cone and the cup, or just the cone?

And I think that the only thing that is vast is my ass....

If the race is the same OD as the one you knock out, and the cone ID is the same as the one you took off, as long as there is not a massive height difference between the two, they should work fine.

Do you still have an old cup and cone?

If so, set the cone in the cup, and compare that to the new one...

Above all, if you are not comfortable with what you have, do not use it.
I have not found an aftermarket bearing that has the identical taper, and number of rollers as the Toyota bearings, but I have not broke out my bearing interechage book yet either, which is where I am headed..

IBI(international bearing interchange) calles out the '30303' as a group 40031 bearing cone and cup.

In the multiple manufacture's listed, Toyota appears with the old part number of 90366-17011, which has changed to 90366-17011-77.

I would not have a problem going with the bearings that you have, going off this information, again however, if you are not comfortable using them, then I would not.

    Good luck!

    -Steve

Hate to say it, but you might want to do a search on the LCML archives, it's been a topic of debate for years.

I'm looking at a TSB right now dated 7/21/59 stating that the knuckle bearing was changed from a 21 degree 30 minute outside taper to a 57 degree outside taper to "provide increased durability to the bearing". From that I would assume that the flatter bearing is better.
