I noticed some fluid that looked like it was originating from within the damper but wasn't sure, I just had a rego inspection and the bloke said he could fail it becasue it's leaking.. He wants me to replace it. Is this for real? I don't know anything about them and haven't noticed anything wrong with the steering..

Also said he could fail it because theres some grease around the front wheel joints..!!

Well, it is 15 years old. Do you still have your OEM shocks from 1997? Chances are the seals are starting to leak on the stabilizer, and it needs replaced. Since these wear out gradually, you'll likely not notice any change. replace it with an OME and be done with it. As for the front knuckles, take a pressure washer to them and then go reinspect.

Thanks man. The shocks have been lifted and replaced with heavy duty towing types. I will see if I can find another cheap stabiliser somewhere in my travels. He's gonna let the bar go for now if I DIY.
