Can anybody point out to me where in the steering box the High pressure line goes. I can’t remember which opening corresponds to the high pressure line and which one correspond to the return line. I have taken my steering box off the truck couple of times, but for some reason I can’t remember this time how it goes. I think I might have installed them wrong. But I can’t inverse them because one of the lines wont go in. So before doing anything stupid, I rather ask!

Thanks a lot!

Can anyone post a pic of the steering box where the lines come in from the driver’s side fender?

Thanks!

Ale, you frickin numbnut - you shouldn't be messing with that now - you should be enroute to GSMTR.

Sorry dude - don't have my 80 at home right now. Hopefully someone will help you out.

Replaced mine last year, but can't remember off the top of my head.

No problem Mike. Thanks a lot either way. I did install it the right way the first time; it was my ram that it was installed backwards. Don’t worry about GSMTR, just finish working on my truck right now at 4:00 and its ready to go. I will be leaving tomorrow late morning!

Yo Christo - talk to Foxfab - he was putting something together for 80s and is on this board.

Alejandro, what size ram did you use? Pics of the install? I was going to do ram assist on mine, but the 8" ram was to short? Did you got on diff to tie-rod?

Christo,

I’m not sure what length ram did we use since I got everything from West Texas Off Road, if you want me as soon as I get a chance I can go and measure it. I do know that it hardly fits, the brackets go from about ¾ of an inch off the diff (on the axel) to the really end of the tie-rod. Right now its at an angle because we didn’t have enough time to fab new brackets, therefore is not completely parallel to the tie-rod an as a result when you go from left to right the tie-rod rotates a little back and forth, I’ll fix this when ever I get a chance to fab new bracket for the mount that go off the axel. I do need to mount a cooler because the power steering fluid gets extremely hot very fast, but besides that it works incredible.

Alejandro, when you get a chance please measure it. Also, how did it work at GSMTR. Thanks.

I need to do this on my truck, but I am also thinking going to a different power steering pump. I do not believe the 80 pump is up to the task. I have a 2nd cooler and it will still boil the fluid. I am working on getting a different pump installed. I believe the 80 pump being right on the engine block just transfers to much heat into the fluid. Also, when they fail it is a pain.

I would rather get a new Howe pump and run it on a belt.
