I'm pretty new to the FJ40 community, so forgive me for asking this stupid question... Are the rims from a '72 FJ40 the same size/lug pattern as a 78? I want to put the steel OEM (painted grey) rims on my '78 and there is a set off of a '72 for sale. I don't want to buy them only to find out that they're different.
Thanks.

Width and bolt pattern are the same but the ones for drum wheels won't fit your disc axle. You need welded, not riveted wheels.

yeap, need the welded versions for DB front ends.
75 on would be a sure bet, some have seen the DB wheels as early as 74.

i have "heard" that you could grind the rivit head off on the extrenal side of the wheel and then weld the wheel yourself. but i would think that you would need to weld around the inside of the rivit also, to prevent the possiblity of it loosening up and leaking air.

Thanks, I appreciate info and quick replies. I guess I'll pass on those rims and shop around for '75 and newer welded OEM rims.

Thanks,
Al
