So my slight radiator leak is not the only problem, now I have a full on steam room going on in the cabin.

My plan is to bypass the heater core today but I'm likely in for a bigger job. Is there a good link around for replacing the core?

I took on a heater core last year; this is a massive job. There wasn't exactly a how-to that I could find. This thread has a high level description of the work involved, but not much specific detail.

I probably put about 20+ hours into this. The best help was through the FSM, and taking lots and lots of picture. Sadly I came up short on a gamble with a rock-auto heater core that leaked almost immediately. I took it into a shop for round two, cost a little over $1000. You can see from this picture just how much of the interior has to come out, including the entire dash. I was able to get a nice layer of sound deadening down, so that was a bonus from this project!

I've wondered if any short to this job. That doesn't involve pulling dash out. Now that you've done the dash pull method. Can you think of a short cut?

Well I by-passed the front heater, I still have the rear. Heat. Glassed up a small crack in the top of my radiator. So.. It should still be ok around town and to the boat ramp.

I guess it's now an old truck. Bad timing though, I was daily driving it as I just roasted the transmission in my work car!

I'll rip into it this summer when I finish my sons boat, build the bunny barn, replace the transmission in the old cop car and clean out the garage!

I would be hard pressed to imagine a way you could do this without pulling the dash. It is amazingly buried, just slightly offset to the right from the center of the dash and under a mountain of wires, the dashbar, HVAC vets and the dash. If anyone can come up with a way to do that they deserve some kind of Mud award! haha.
