Alright guys! ive saved up some money, looked around and talked to specialists, but not its time for me to come and ask guidance from the real heavy hitters of any aftermarket car community... the forum gurus.

I have a 1999 LX470 with about 200k miles and stock suspension system. I have been looking around for an upgrade so that I could do some off roading and convert the rig into an over landing beast but I was having some trouble finding places that offer a one stop shop. So far I have my eyes on Icon's stage 2 lift system but I wasn't sure what the top pic is for the people who dont get a commission check for recommending gear to me! I want to do a 3in lift and have a budget of about 3k all said and done. (I can throw everything on myself if necessary to save some money)

I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for either parts stores, or suspension lift kits that are packing tons of value for the $. Any help or input is appreciated and I am very excited to start this journey!

Most lift kits will run you between $1500-$3k depending on what you get and from where. By doing yourself, which the job doesn't look overly difficult and can't be worse than my 60 was, you will save yourself a good amount of money because most will charge shop hourly rate to handle (which can range from $100-$175/hr depending). So I would definitely recommend doing yourself if you have some mechanical aptitude.

As for a particular setup, plenty of people running different setups, think there is even a thread dedicated to guys running a lifted AHC setup. With your AHC setup, if you move over to a dedicated LC torsion bar setup you are going to lose some comfort. So use the search function and start reading up on the different kits and how people feel about them.

Ultimately, it is really going to come down to what your plans are with the rig in the future as you will want to have a timeline when that stuff is going to happen as that will influence what you get.

Keep AHC. 2" lift on demand.

You could spend all your budget on a "lift" and you'd still be worse off than stock AHC.

That $3k won't cover basic maintenance in year one, mark my words, haha. Stock 100's do very well on trails and overlanding. Get yourself some 33" tires and some globes for AHC unless yours are new.

I went with the 2” Ironman 4X4 kit. I cranked the TB’s a tad more and added a 1” rear spacer and it has been working pretty damn phenomenal so far.

If you want to dial up a shop, call Slee. I've had a limited experience so far, and they obviously are trying so sell product, but they're not going to f*** you around as far as I can tell.

Like you, I was ready to drop a few bucks on upgrades off the bat. Lift, lights, bumper, etc. Do a baseline 1st. Make sure you change the timing belt/water pump if it hasn't been done recently. Valve cover gaskets, plugs, brakes, various suspension (stock!) bits. All fluids. Weather seals.

I've had my '02 LC for less than a week, and it's already proven to me to be much much better off-road, basically stock, than I expected. Honestly just fix the wear and tear items and get some tires and you'll be set for a little bit.
