I recently purchased a 97 LX450 and am trying to fix up all the items which don't work quite right. One item is that when the weather is cold, the starter stays engaged after the engine starts. It does disengage after 1 or 2 seconds but it sure makes a lot of noise. Once the vehicle warms up it doesn't have this problem. Any advice is appreciated.

Starter contacts.

Go to the stickythread titled FAQ for 80/LX450 series. Scroll down to maintenance section look for starter contacts

Order parts from cruiserdan and it will save you a few $$. Remember to order enough parts to get to $100 for free shipping

PCV Valve, air filter, oil filter. Just add filters till you get there.

Do this quickly... members have had LandCruiser-B-Q's from the starter contacts sticking...

Don't forget to replace the 2 valve cover vent hoses and the PCV grommet* while you're at it... ;)

*Yes, there's a trick to getting the PCV grommet out of the valve cover...

I agree, starter contacts. Cheap and not too difficult to replace. If it stays stuck on, have a wrench handy to disconnect the battery quick, before you cause permanent damage or burn your 80 series to the ground  :)

FYI- PCV grommet is not related at all.

It's related to this:

I ordered starter contacts for PM, and a bunch of other parts (including JDM oil filters)... Just helping with the list...

The PCV or the filters are not related to the starter contacts, just suggestions on how to get to the $100 magic order value number.

Where do you live? It's not in your sig.

If you're in the Portland OR metro area, I have a set I haven't installed yet & could give them to you/help install if needed.

You could then order a set from Cdan for me since I don't plan on doing it right away.

Thanks for the offer to help Valentine but I live over in Boise. I did contact Cdan about parts but he needed to know which starter I had in my cruiser. I looked at it appears to be an aftermarket replacement as it does not have the markings that Cdan mentioned. What should I do?
