I ordered some contacts and bits to replace the contacts in the starter, only one bag arrived with the crescent shaped contact and associated parts. Question, can I clean up the plunger and opposite contact with some abrasive and reinstal with a reasonable expectation of improved performance or ami better to wait on the lost remainders? I expect the answer is to clean them up and go for it, thought I wou,d check

Don't replace just one. That won't help you. I will sometimes apply valve grinding compound to the plunger head and lap the contacts in for excellent contact. If they are already thin though the days are numbered regardless. If less than half worn through I'd rather lap than replace myself.

Ok, thanks. I’m going to pull it out tomorrow and have a good look.
