I have a BJ73 but I don't have a ladder on the back..

I was wondering if it was safe to stand on the roof and is there a safe way to climb up without damaging anything?

i was thinking on the front tire > fender > roof

It'd be used as a platform for like photography or something..

or is this a bad idea?

EDIT: If it's relevant, I weight about 160lbs, with my photo gear, it should be around 200lbs max on the rooftop

heya mate, ive had to people on my roof before, acess via rear step- spare wheel, and its seems to have held up allright

get a proper ladder and roof rack...sheesh.

The only thing I'm afraid of with a roof rack is raising the height even more. It looks pretty close already when I'm going into the school parking lots right now, I'm afraid if I went with a roof rack, it might bump into stuff

A step ladder sounds like a good idea though, where can I get one?

the 74 mounts to the front sids and the rear cross gutter.
you could get a lowprofile single rack that will raised the clearence by about 2"...

HI, i installed the OEM steps from a Troop Carrier, you can get those from the Toyota Dealer. In my case it will not fit perfect since i have a swb truck, The troop carrier has its differences but i could do it without problems. I discovered those in a photo of my friends from http://www.4x4panama.com and i ordered them here. The pic, borrowed from 4x4panama, although one is missing:

I noticed that it's drilled into the roof, I have a FRP roof, I'm not sure if that's a good idea to do that
