Hi I am the proud owner of a 1988 fj62, however with the cold weather have come problems and a check engine light (I live in NJ). When I start it I have to toy with the throttle to get it to fire and after I get it to start I have to keep it above 2000 to 2500 rpm or it will bog and stall. After it has warmed up (a few min at 2000 to 2500 rpm) it will maintain idle at just over 1000 (still kind of high) on its own. This has been happening since about November, but now it’s beginning to stall while driving (its auto trans). After stalling it wont restart for 5 or 10 min. I haven’t had it looked at yet but it does need a new belt (witch I have ordered) and I can’t seem to fine anything else wrong with it. All comments, experiences, mechanic recommendations, and expert (or any for that matter) opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the FSM, you can read the codes with it and have a starting point.
I can not remember how to use the jumper wire on the port to recall codes. I'll try to look it up but it will be a few days before I am able to do that maybe someone can jump in and tell you. My guess is and EFI problem, but check the simple things 1st; plugs wires, air filter, etc.
