The USFS is rebuilding the water breaks and filling holes in the severly water and abuse damaged Peters Mill Trail. The trail will be closed to all vehicles, including Volunteer Cleanup crews, so the only cleanup we can support are the parking lots and the 4.2 mile section of Taskers Gap Trail that is accessible by our trucks. Stay tuned for more information. The Washington Area Trail Riders will be having their cleanup day either on 3/14 or 3/21. They plan to set a date next week sometime.
UPDATE: It works best if we coordinate with WATR so Wade can get all the tools, paint for blazing and trash bags, etc. together at one time and place for both volunteer groups.
The order of the day on Taskers Gap Trail will be to paint the V Blazes and brush around the V blazes as needed, pruning overhanging and downed branches from the trail (cut close to the ground or tree trunk), log out and clean culverts 10 feet on upper and lower sides) and pickup any trash you see. With the wet weather and high winds, there might be blow downs to contend with so Certified Sawyers should bring your chainsaws.
We have also been tasked with cleaning out the culverts at the Edinburg Gap parking area and picking up any trash we find. The Peters Mill Trail is closed to all volunteer vehicles so we will not be allowed to work on Peters Mill Trail unless you want to walk-in.
The trails are scheduled to open to the public on 3/23/20, but that depends on the wet weather and how it impacts the heavy repair work.
I'll post an update as soon as I get new information.
