Too far north. Too far east.
I received an email from the store that they are clearing out and closing their Camping Department. Gear will be 30%-70% off starting tomorrow and the sale will run through Sunday. I've never shopped there for camping gear so I don't know what they carry. I will be checking it out.

Wow - they were already half the price of REI, but hey, REI donates so much to anti 4x4 groups that they need the markup...

I had quite a few friends that used to work there when I shopped there quite a bit. They knew the equipment really well. Most of them have left, but when I was there about two months ago, some of the new hires didn't sound like they knew what they were talking about. They do have good stuff though! Last time I went for one of these sales. It was the cheaper products on sale for the discounts, but some of the big names like Marmot, MSR, etc.... had some decent deals. If you got the emails, you should be a eTrailz club member. You also get a 15 buck discount on any purchase over 50, and they keep your purchase towards a year end discount with no fee (unless they changed it), unlike REI that charges you to be a member.

Sportz Outdoor is way more expensive than REI. I have no problem giving REI my business.

But I get my stuff through my brother at 30% discount. :D

I agree that REI is not the least expensive place in town for camping gear, even with the 10% dividend. For bicycle stuff they are priced way high and I've found better deals at Sportz or Performance Bike. The only problem is the folks at Performance couldn't tell you the difference between a chainring and a bottom-bracket. Best to know what you want before you walk in.

Passed by here last Friday... everything is basically 50% off now (80% is for the Coughlin camping accessories).

What's left? A few tents, mostly smaller ones meant for backpacking, backpacks, sleeping bags, a few MSR stove and water purifiers. A few knives.

I bought a few Aluminum water bottles.

Sportz Outdoors is closing and Sportz Systems (previously on Juan Tabo by the post office) is taking its place. Different owners despite the use of the "z".

Should make for a greak ski and bike place.

Very interesting. I hope they keep the bike shop the same.

For me Performance has a worse selection. I like Sportz Outdoor because they carry Specialized Air-Lock tubes, only place in town. Also they have a good selection of random but very important parts. Like an adapter for my front derailer to mount on the small diameter seat tube of my Bianchi. Or the two hole cleat adapters for my road shoes.

Why? Performance Bike has better deals and a better selection.

Sorry Jon, I have to agree with Rory on this one. I get the all their monthly catalogs along with Colorado Cyclist. If you want a run of mill stock parts, Pricepoint.com (better deal than Perfomance IMO) has a good price on thier stuff. Rory is test riding my Litespeed with all the parts I got from them. If Mike is still going to manage the the store there should be some good help there, he knows bikes really well. I never questioned his advice.

After re-reading this thread, does you brother work there? I get my freind to buy crap for me from time to time. Nice to have that employee discount! No wonder they are cheaper for you.
