I am working in Spokane and brought my 94 LC 80 series up here from Austin. I have a heater core issue which may involve the nasty job of pulling dash etc. Not sure I can drive it back to LCSpecialists in Austin or not. I saw a prior thread on Cruiser friendly shops and wondering if there are any updates or advice specifically for this issue as of 2018.

I dont know any Cruiser shops here in town but my Cousin Brian manages the Union Gospel Motors and he is a trustworthy guy that does good work. I have another friend Paul that manages the Tune Tech on Pines. He does good work but not sure about his guys. you could throw my name around to either of them and they would take care of you but not sure how pricing is since I like to do all my own stuff.

To update this, no decision yet as I am trying to verify what Larry Miller Toyota actually diagnosed, here is what I mined from the Clubhouse site and other referrals In addition to Cnorm5623 response
Silver Star 3rd Street
SCC Toyota Program
Vandervert
and an old thread said Parker Toyota in CDA

So is your core leaking? In cab our outside of cab? Or is it just plugged?
Its definitely in the cab and some outside. I measured the loss over a couple of days and I can keep going for local travel with an eye on it. Need to travel back for meetings and did not want to rush the decision.

so is it the joint going into or out of the firewall? might just be a cracked hose. you could search on here for similar issues and see what it has been. if you want to get hands on I have all the tools.

Many thanks. They actually said it was piping not hoses. I should have access to a shop manual at Austin next week so I can develop a complete plan. tools needed etc. but thats a great offer.

And the winner is...

I chose Vandervert and so far have been very pleased This was due to the recommendations and proximity to my Spokane office downtown. I did more research on the issue and the issue needed to be broken into two parts. The first was various hose clamps and hoses in the engine compartment. They had some rust but in no way needed to be replaced. The second, which was a problem with rust was the piping to the rear heater core which runs behind the heat shield. Solution. Terminate the rear heater core which I have used roughly twice. Bypass hose closes the loop and I should be good to go for a while particularly as it warms up. Joss and the mechanic Tom listened and performed the work for a very fair price. So as an additional note, do not count on Larry Miller Toyota to analyze a problem on an 80 series.

I stumbled onto Cabinet Cruisers recently. Joe seems to be knowledgeable and fair.
They are currently doing a de-smog for me.

Hi Spokane folks,

I’ll be coming to your neck of the woods soon(coming from Canada). My 100 series needs much needs maintenance(TB/WP), looking to see if a cruiser shop has opened up on the past 2 yrs? Thanks in advance.

Not to my knowledge however Still use Vandervert Automotive and they have been good. They were also restoring an 80 series for an owner recently

I have had Pete's Garage work do substantial work on my FJ40 and FJ62 and he has done great. I have seen other Land Cruisers at his shop as well. I've been very happy with his work and pricing, but schedule in advance. He owns a plow business too, so large storms can delay repairs.

I recently used 5 Mile Auto Center in North Spokane after they were recommended by classic car mechanic I was using. I was honestly surprised of his recommendation. The had a great show room and seemed to be very knowledgeable with older mechanics that know classic cars. I had them adjust the valves and tune up the carb. I tried to look up Pete's Garage and they appear to be Permanently Closed. I also want to give a shout out for Expert Alignment and Brake. They are awesome to work with on alignments and working on wheels/tires if you buy them online.

Pete's is still there. I had a cruiser repaired last month.

Pete is a straight shooter. He is honest and won't sell you things you don't need.

He is also happy to install your parts or order from your preferred supplier (I had him order directly from Cruiser Outfitters, and have also supplied parts to him).

Tell him James with the FJ40 and FJ62 cruisers referred you. I have been very happy with his work and pricing.

He was the only one in town that would repair my warped exhaust manifold.

Awesome thanks for the link. The one I found was off Sprague so must have been the wrong shop.
