Well here we go on this project! Little nervous but excited.



Special shout out to @gerg as its his kit i will be running.

 
This was the worst part so far... Electrical!!! I hate anything to do with it. Had a buddy stop by and he wired my step down thingy so i could power my 12v gauges haha.




Exhaust studs are the next scary thing... Been soaking them weekly for the last few months haha.
 
If you strip any of the nuts for your exhaust manifold, which I did, you can hammer on a 12 point 13mm socket and the nuts came right off. A little trick I learned from a buddy of mine.

Great tip but my manifold isnt coming off i guess i wasnt too clear. Im refering the the exhaust flange studs haha. Whats best way for those double nut them then give it a go?

Double nut is the way to go with the manifold in the middle.
 
Well i just realized the studs dont need to come out for the install of this kit! haha brain fart, but i noticed that 2 of the nuts of the bottom were missing and the 3rd one was barly finger tight so that will be easy to get the old exhaust off.
 
You can use the 2 nut method to put those missing nuts in place as well.
 
Good to see you have some time for this. Sorry about that stud confusion. Yes the studs stay in if you prefer. It's a lot easier to leave them alone. I use copper never sieze on all the components during assembly as it handles tons of heat and makes any work in the future way easier. Shoot me a pm for tuning or install advice if you need any.

I’m sure I’m over thinking this. Has anyone ever noticed corrosion from using copper never seize between aluminum and steel?
I just used a whole bunch, Thought about it. thought some more and figured the benefits outweigh.

Following along, curious to see how the turbo looks mounted on the original manifold.
 
thats a good question. I've used steel bolts into aluminum threads on my intercooler with never sieze and haven't noticed anything abnormal, although you would think it would conduct? Maybe straight up grease is better as it is an insulator.
 
Corrosion when dissimilar metals are in contact is due to a galvanic chemical reaction. My understanding is there need to be a certain amount of moisture, AND electrical current present for galvanic corrosion to occur.
The more acidic the moisture is, the quicker it occurs.

If you have a bolted connection that is normally dry, it shouldn't be a big problem

Why on earth do you live there? Rain forests, mountains, snow, stunning coastlines! Sounds horrid :hmm:

Funny you asked man!

Just wrapped it up tonight! Running a bit rough from sitting for the last 7 weeks or so. Still have to do exhaust on it. Pretty pumped!!!

 
what's the double nut technique?
 
Tighten one nut onto another nut on a stud and make them bind so neither will turn then you can torque the stud into place using a socket or wrench on the nuts with pretty good force. Studs usually give you nothing to grab onto.
