Hi all,
Recently when driving to work,, my speedometer wouldn't move off zero. Rest of the guages worked fine. Once I got to work I turned the car off and then later went back out and then it worked. So I thought great some weird bug or whatever. But now I notice sporadically that when stopped the needle won't go below 10mph or sometimes 15mph. Any thoughts? Anyone else had this issue? I'm leaning toward a bad speedometer sensor but before I replace I was hoping someone else had a solution. Thanks!

Probably the stepper motor in the instrument cluster.

You might try searching this forum for “stepper motor”

@Stik11987 Did you drive in the dirt somewhere?? I have notice this issue show up on Tundra's as well. It was usually 2 things afaik. But first see if it is indeed the stepper motor. If not then this could be another place to look.

1st could be dirty ABS sensor or ABS sensor ring. To fix this you have to take the ABS sensors out and clean them and see if this fixes your issue.

2nd - IIRC there is a speed sensor in the transmission that could fail as well. Just look up these 2 issues and hopefully this will get you on track to solving the issue.

Btw dont forget to come back and report the final fix for the issue. thanks

Thanks, BnvS and jLB. Haven't driven it in the dirt since I just bought the car in November, but it isn't to say that the PO didn't take it.
I'll try the ABS sensors first. Still sourcing stepper motor repairs. Sounds like for the Lexus, the only option is to rebuild them which I have no clue how to do.
