Specifically, how is “width” measured ? (1 Viewer)

I’m considering a mix and match project. Cab from truck “X”, on frame of truck “Y”, with axle set from truck “Z”.

When researching different makes & models, one commonly sees standard specs like weight, wheel base, width, etc

Wondering if anybody knows the industry standard how “width” is measured for any given make/model. Rotor to rotor ? Fender to fender ?

If you are talking axles it is WMS-WMS, if you are talking vehicles they usually give 2 measurements, one with mirrors and one without.

@scottryana , do you know if the vehicle width measurement commonly cited as part of a given vehicle’s specs, is an axle measurement?

The example above would be body width, not axle, and not including mirrors

If you're looking at swapping axles from one vehicle to another, compare the WMS measurements. Most axles' WMS can be found with a quick google.

The shape of the frame and the shape of the body will have a greater impact on the success of a project like this, I would guess.

If considering mix and match of Cruiser components, Cruiser Outfitters has overall LC axle widths somewhere on website.
