Does anyone have a diagram of the speaker wiring for an 89 HJ61? I have the FSM but nothing matches so it's very hard to figure it out. Somebody must have added a new CD player to one of these trucks. Thanks, Pete

are you trying to figure out what speakers are what , you can use a 9 volt battery to test the wires to determine which ones are r and l and frnt and rear .

i am originaly from willies puddle my self , still have friends and relatives up there !

I used an adapter plug. Its actually 2 plugs, one goes into my Kenwood CD player and the other plugs into the toyota harness.
It connects everything.

Otherwise there is a color code for Toyota here. http://www.autotoys.com/New_Tech/Wire_codes/TOYOTA_WIRE_COLORS/toyota_wire_colors.htm

if you are adding a new stereo, consider adding new speaker wires. stock toyota wires are pretty flimsy. The time you save on figuring out which wires are which, you can spend installing new wires.

Ditto .. are little complicated the sterio braket work .. but wiring it's quite simple.

Stereo Wiring

I have installed a few stereos in these HJ's. I have done it both ways - 1) using a 9volt battery across the speaker wiring to identify each speaker then splicing in the harness from the new stereo. 2) much easier is buying an adapter from Future Shop - ( less than $20 )which will allow the new stereo to be plugged into the original wiring harness. One thing you didn't mention, do you have a 24 -12 convertor.

Hi George, I do have a solar converter that I am putting in. The adapter sounds like the way to go. Do I just need to ask for a Toyota to Sony adapter at Future Shop? Thanks, Pete

Wiring adapter

Just ask for an adapter for the landcruiser. If they say they don't have a listing just use a cruiser listing that was available here, the wiring is the same eg: 86 BJ60. It will plug directly into the original wiring. All the wires on the adapter are marked as to each speaker and it is quite simple to connect to any brand of stereo so long as you have a diagram of the new unit. If I remember correctly the adapters are actually in 2 pieces, one for the speakers and one for the power wiring which will have to be run through your convertor which hopefully has a constant hot for memory.

Thank you for the posting of the BJ60 electrical diagram Mr. Odingski. These contributions are what help everyone out there in a pinch and need technical info fast. Does anybody on the forum out there have a HJ61 wiring diagram to post? Also, if anyone has a pic of the factory harness with the wires for the radio labeled so everyone on the forum knows what wire is which would be great.
For reference, when I pulled my factory radio from my JDM HJ61, the radio case was labeled as 12 volt, not 24volt. I will report back more info when I complete my install of a double din bluetooth enabled headhunit into the HJ61. Hopefully I will have figured out the solutions by then and will post up the info and photos of the install.

Thanks IH8MUD, Love you guys!

Your truck has an under the dash small converter for such things as the radio. If your radio was working before you should be good to go with your new one.
