One moment - checking...

If a seal were laying on the workbench, you'd either be looking at an all metal face, or the other side which you can see the edge of the rubber seal surrounded by a valley. The all metal face is facing up when the valve cover is installed on the engine, so when you're pounding them into the valve cover, you should be looking at the rubber seal edge. Hope that's clear. If not, perhaps you have one you pried out and can see how it was oriented based on the screwdriver marks. The all metal face should be inserted first and you should put grease on the seals before sliding them onto the tube seals when in install the valve cover.
