Never thought I'd have the courage to try this in an 80 but this weekend I made it up! Put a little ding in my rear door and quarter panel when the truck lunged up the obstacle. As usual, pics and video never do it justice. For those that have been on the Rubicon you know just how deep these ledges are and can easily swallow a 40" tire. On to the proof :flipoff2:

This photo better shows the size of the ledges; my buddy taking the harder line

Where's the obstacle? :meh:

It's kind of a small part of the overall Rubicon experience, but it isn't an easy spot. Have you done it?

In fact, it's hard. It doesn't matter what truck you have, it's a series of huge steps....

I've never seen an 80 on that until now, and just for the record, I avoid it. It's a good place to break something serious.

Wow. Nice work. Do you still have the stock t case gears? It looked a bit lurchy

Thanks, and yeah still the stock gears and lurchy as ever. I have the 3.11s on the shelf, maybe put them in over the winter.

That is pretty crazy. A small dent is little to pay for an obstacle like that. Nicely done. I would just have smashed my front bumper in on that before the tires even made contact with the ledge if I was trying it with my rig.

I was being sarcastic...that looks impossible. I wouldn't try that driving Gravedigger!

Slick Nickel...
All stock gearing?
I'm impressed.
Show us more vids... this is better than reality TV.

Soup Bowl really is gnarly. I wasn't even thinking of trying this but you know how that peer pressure goes :) Everybody in the group went up, most did Soup Kitchen. It was awesome watching the full bodied 3rd gen 4Runners on 40s climb a nearly 8ft vertical wall.

Honestly it doesn't look that bad in video after watching it a few times. It's one of those parts of a trail you really have to see in person to appreciate.

All stock aside from the 5.29s. Had quite a bit of camping gear inside too. I noticed the truck climbs a lot easier once I got rid of 600lbs of bumpers, ladders, swingouts and spare tires. I don't have many vids on my phone, but I know the other guys do. I'll have to track them down in the next few days. This is the only other one I have. Kinda boring, this was towards the beginning of Cadillac Hill.

Ballsy display of using the throttle, nice work! Do u have hydro assist on the steering? Also, what size tires are you running?

37" Mud Grapplers. And yes, running hydro assist, it's the blue ram you see under the tierod. Using a bigger reservoir and large cooler. The whirring sound you hear in the video is from the fans mounted over the cooler.

Awesome! Isn't it a bummer how the videos don't even come close to the real thing?

I was going to ask how you like it without all the "expo" gear. Probably makes a huge difference. Maybe a bob next to get rid of some of the weight hanging out over the rear axle.

Nice job Jose! That bowl isn't for the weak. My friend on 40's and gears (1st gen 4r) didn't want to touch it (was actually pretty surprised). We hung around for a bit there and watch several really built trucks get denied.

Nice group of Yota's you run with.

Let's talk weight. You posted this on Instagram so this free game. 6,160 pounds.
How do you put an 80 on a diet? You wrote you lost about 600 lbs by taking off the bigger bumpers etc... So I'm thinking if you take all the doors off, remove the rear hatch or at least take the rear glass out. I hear the 80 seats are also heavy, what if you replace with lighter manual kind. How much would this actually help & would it be worth it? Hmmm.

That snorkel makes it look easy.

Please don't chop your 80. Please.
