My front heater is hooped. 1st off thanks Steve for that relay but that wasn't the problem. My heater quit and I'm trying to solve the issue. I need help bad because it's going down to -20C tomorrow. There are 2 power wires going into the blower motor. A LR (light blue/red stripe) and a LW (light blue/white stripe). This doesn't jive with my factory wiring diagram so I'm struggling. I'm sure they are both power leads as the blower motor has a + beside both of these connectors. I'm only reading power out of the LW wire and I can't get power out of the LR lead. But even when I apply 24v to both leads on the blower motor (blower is grounded) the blower still doesn't work. Can anybody out there please confirm that there is power coming out of both leads? Super easy to do, the connector is right on the bottom of the blower motor. Anyone else have blower motor issues? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Well surprise, surprise.

Its getting cold out and my blower motor just quit as well. No power at any speeds. Last time it was only the first two speeds that quit and a new resistor fixed it. I have not had time to play with it yet.

When you applied power directly to the motor was it from the battery? If so and still not working I think it's safe to say that you need a new motor.

I will update in the next few days about my issues. Hopefully we can solve our problems together.

Dave

Hey dbryan,

Yeah Murphy's law. I've got power up to my fan switch but that's where it gets confusing because my wire colours don't match the factory service manual. I don't think it's the switch as it's just a mechanical device that can't really break and I'm confused as to why the blower motor has (2) 24volt sources and no obvious ground. The blower motor has 24v coming from the heater relay and also 24v coming from the dash heater blower switch. I've also replaced my blower resistor so the only 2 parts left to replace are the heater blower switch and blower motor. Does anyone out there have a known good heater switch and blower motor for sale? And I don't mean to be pushy but damn it's cold outside this morning so the sooner the better! Any help would be much appreciated!

The blower motor in my HJ60 quit working properly soon after purchase in mid August. It would start if I sharply banged on the motor when turned on. I pulled the blower motor, took it apart, cleaned it, and reassembled it. There was a pile of carbon dust where the brushes contacted the armature. It works fine, now. In my FJ60 I've been able to extend the life of the heater motor by just cleaning and lubricating, instead of replacing. You might try it.

Those motors do wear out. I'm on the second one in my '82 BJ60. The two wires coming into the motor are the power + and - as far as I remember.
If you pull it apart you may find that the brushes are basically gone!

Problem solved, it was the blower motor. There were NO brushes left. I'm surprised it ran this long! Thanks guys for your help. New blower motor coming from NAPA, $168

Skoki,

Could you please list the NAPA part number for the motor?

Thanks,

Dave
