Just found this thread. We do this kind of cooking on locomotives all the time. We use the turbo/ exhaust area, plus many other locations including sidewall heaters. Cans also work well just don't use the type that have the pull tab lids. They tend to explode.

on old bmw bikes, the i aint got no money ones... i have seen creative things done with coke cans... perhaps you could use a silver bullet, set it up on a low side to drip grease into and you would have to change per cooking... just some bailing wire would hold it in place!

but would seem foil wrapped would be best method...

that is a cool idea over all....

Oh my where have the years gone... and this thread makes it back to the top. Well I'm still cookin' every now and then, I've actually got a 2yo son who likes tater tots and corn dogs cooked on the engine (didn't have a kid when this thread started) those seem to be our favorites. I've done a few more roasts but it's tough to get tin internal temp up high enough. Things are a little tighter under the hood now with the OBA, but I got it all to work, not quite as convenient as before but still totally doable. here are some fairly current pics..

My wife began preparing heated sandwiches circa 1990 in our 88 FJ62. Double wrap in HEAVY Reynolds Al foil. Toasty hot by the time we get to upper end of Tuttle Creek Reservoir Wildlife Area. Before opening hood, get a big stick to beat off the hungry mutts.

We did NOT try eating them in our FJ62, so I can't vouch for whether the MILFORD would keep our dogs in their proper place.

Keep track of the inner foil w/melted cheese, don't want to find Silver Bullets out on the trail.

Wife and I enjoyed, and made the dogs drool, some KC barbecue at 13,000' utilizing the S'Nakman cooker yesterday on Argentine Pass above Georgetown, CO. Abaloolly the best $10 you can spend upgrading your 80. Yummy!!!

Nothing elaborate for me, but just a grill stuck in with wire and a disposable 9x9 aluminum foil pan on top to keep the burritos in place. The foil pan is nice since I can bend it to keep things in place. Going to probably try a roast and cubed potatoes on my way to Silverton, CO this week. Have also used it for MRE's when I don't feel like being creative.

Love the Car-B-Que name, but S'Nakman grill is classic! Get strange looks/chuckles from people, but a great mod!
