I would hate to see someone burned by this guy.

He is selling JDM RHD trucks in WA state. Supposedly with titles and appropriate paperwork. To be verified at delivery(hmmm).

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=6443&item=4562429568

Everything seems OK but never replies to emails/requests to discuss getting the truck checked out by a mechanic.

We all know that an engine teardown on a toyota diesel can be over $5k.

    Buyer beware.

If I buy I'll deal with Wayne. PM me for more information.

I emailed the guy too and no responce. Im guessing the truck is carrying FJ60 vin tags! Otherwise (if its possible) its simply to damn expensive to make it a viable option with those trucks.

    I agree

That was my thought also. I had to get word out as I leaked last week that the 4runner/surf thing may happen. It isn't too hard for folks on the board to figure out the who and where of the story.

The fact that he won't reply to any questions at all tells me he likes the EBAY forum where folks are sunk once they bid.

Again I just don't want to see someone burned.

PM me for name and contact information of seller.

Looks like a BC VIN. They issue one at the out of province inspection. I don't know if that opens a US import loophole or if it red flags the rig as grey market. Feedback is ok except for the really uncool deal he made advertising something in the US that turned out to be in Canada. Buyer ended up on the hook for duty.

Yup, looks like a BC assigned VIN, which is assigned to any vehicle from out of Country that does not match the current standard of 17 digits...

Perhaps not with the auto...There's a fellow in Edmonton who has an HJ61/H55F, over 200,000kms on it, and on road trips he has broken that mark a number of times. In fact 26-28impg are the norm for him as a dd iirc.

My bogus truck is in mint condition, is one of a kind in Canada and I got it for $5000 less than I would ever think of selling it. I paid a deposit, then went for a final inspection before completing the deal.

    IMHO is a handy phrase.

Don't you just love the paradox in his ad:

"These Vehicles are just not allowed into the United States..."

"...this van is completely and legally registered and licensed in Washington state..."

It would appear that Washington State is no longer a state in the Union.

I love it, finally somebody else has figured it out. We became the Peoples Republic of Washington a while ago when our state congress went communist on us!

I wouldn't trust the electronic title searches.I bought a late model Acura with a clean electronic report in Vancouver. When I took it to a dealer for service their data base showed it to be an out of province theft return with accident history.Buyer beware.Stephen

I bet you that guy found a state-specific loophole and has been using that for US registry. If he can do it, more power to him, and more power to US buyers that may now be able to consider a JDM import (through Canada).

Is it gray market? Almost *guaranteed*. Does it matter? To a lot of people, it does, they're not willing to sink money into a potential liability. To others, me included, as long as it's in the US and has a valid state title, that's as good as gold, now you can go register it in your home state. The further you get from the original BC title, the less gray it gets.

As long as you can get it legally insured and state-registered in the US, you are golden. Technically, it will not be EPA and DOT compliant, but that means little in the majority of US states, when was the last time you got pulled over to check for DOT certification? Most local cops either won't know or won't care, as long as the vehicle looks safe and complies with standard regulations (turn signals, brakes, bumper heights, etc).

The visibility of RHD is slowly becoming a moot point since the conversion to RHD has become a hot item for the vast "tuner car" crowd. Many different vendors offer to do the conversion, it's one of the latest fads. That means that more and more cops will see RHD vehicles, and care less and less about it as time goes by.

YES, the potential is always there for a legal battle down the road, but the possibilities are remote, low enough that many people will be willing to take a chance.

Maybe somebody can run the WA plate to see what the description comes back as.

It'd be very interesting if it is described as a diesel fueled HJ61.

At this point I am less interested in a witch hunt than to find out how to legally get these things stateside.

This rig should have a title brand indicating it is gray market. Gray Market 45 for non conforming or Gray Market 46 for conforming.

Interested parties could call WA states Dept of Licencing to find out if it has a brand or not...

"You may also find out limited information about a Washington vehicle's history by calling our Public Disclosure Office at (360) 902-3780. They will be able to tell you about brands associated with a vehicle, but cannot give out any additional information about a car that you do not own."
