Long over due update,

Been driving the truck now for a few months. Took it on it’s first long haul with my boy to see family over the holidays. The 1200 km round trip (chilliwack to grandforks BC) included some pretty decent hill climbs, the truck ran flawless!

Found some decent snow along the way as well.

The truck is now 100% back together, interior is all back together. Next plan is lift, winch, locker and a little rust repair before it gets bad.

Few pix from my trip...

There was only one small thing that kinda is making me scratch my head.

I notice that after letting the truck coast down hills, as soon as a little throttle is applied the truck has a slight miss and a greyish smoke comes out the tail pipe.

My valve seals are new and the valve cover vent is vented to atmosphere. I’m thinking maybe this might be signs my Injection pump is in need of a rebuild. Truck has 350000 Kms and I have no idea if the pumps ever been rebuilt.

Right on Postoy! I know that drive really well as my folks live out that way too. Glad the truck is running well. Not sure what to say about the throttle issues. Maybe try pulling any codes from the ECU?

Thanks GTSSportCoupe, Yeah might be worth while. The engine light isn't currently on, but maybe a soft code? I am finding that the truck does have a hard start sometimes, usually after I've run in for a short period then shut it off then try to restart it. Usually a quick manual over ride on the glow plugs solves this. Even that though I have noticed the wilson switch will only sometimes activate the glow relay. I have to hit the button a few times to hear it actually click on. I have a spare relay I might try swapping in and see if that's the issue.

I remember you saying a long time ago that the water temp sensor can really bugger things up. I am wondering if that could be affecting my glow system. Might have to look for a replacement for that as well.

Finally! After 8 months I finally got my lift in.

Here is some before and after. Hard to tell from the photo but it went up about 3” in the front and 3.5” in the back

I noticed that the truck rode really rough at stick height. Well it turned out the ome replacement shocks that were in the truck were lift shocks and were bottoming out over the smallest bumps giving a terrible ride. Truck drives like a Cadillac now.

Nice work! That's quite the lift. Do you have part number for those springs or shocks? I think my OME shocks might be on the too short side; curious what you have.

I’ve definitely noticed when I get in and out of the truck, being 6’2” I actually have to slightly hop up into the truck now.

I don’t have the part number on the springs. They were on my old truck. From the look of them they look the same as Jarrat’s ome springs. The springs themselves were not much taller than stock but they are quite a bit thicker.

The shocks are OME.
Fronts are N77

Rears are N79

I’m going to swap over my 33s soon. Those wheels have a better back spacing than the stock rims IMO

Cool, those are the same shocks I have. Good to know they are rated for longer travel. My original front OME springs must have been different than the ones you have, as they gave very little lift.

If you look at the space between the LJ78's axles and the bump stops on a stock truck; it's like Toyota basically lowered these things from the factory!

Yeah, those tires look rather small now! Definitely time for 33's. Will give better highway revs too.

Added proper sized tires and rims with a better offset (IMO)

I’m thinking about ditching the spare for now. The tire feels quite weighty on the back door, I worry about damaging it.
Might have to add rear bumper and swing out tire carrier to the list of todos

Looks awesome! Are those 32's or 33's?

Yeah, my rear tire has been hard on the door too. In fact it's on my list to fix that door now....haha.

Swapping over my manual hubs. My Ehubs are working fine but I really prefer manuals.

With my old truck I took the time to sort out the parts so I figured I might as well put them to use.

I decided to take some pictures this time so anyone thinking about this swap had something to reference.

This is not a rebuild, my axle does need a rebuild but I’m lacking time and parts to do a complete job on it. So excuse the disgusting parts.

Again, I have swapped 80-85 (maybe 79?) Toyota mini truck/4Runner spindles, wheel hubs and 4wd hubs onto my 92 lj78.

The notch in the top of the knuckle where the Ehub wire came in will have to be filled. I used black silicon, seems to do the trick.

It’s a rainy Sunday morning... figured now is a good time for a quick update.

Built and installed my rear fold down table.

Cut off the awful hidden hitch the previous owner had installed

Installed my pintle hitch at the same time.

Finally got around to moving my gauges into the stock altimeter pod.

My truck didn’t come with that option but luckily I have a parts truck that did. So I swapped the dash pad and pod out.

Lastly I wired up and got the factory Elocker working (another item swapped from the parts truck)

Anyone looking to swap in a factory e locker, there seems to be a ton of info on the 4Runner wiring but I had a hard time finding prado info. The colours and plugs are different.

This diagram works and is the one I used.

@JimmyPrado I have a .dxf drawing of the rear panel needed for the table of your interested in making one. I can also cut them for anyone interested I’d just have to sort out material cost and shipping.
