Hello All,
I recently put the top back on my 40, and now I notice how hot the bare metal floor gets.
I have rubber floor mats but want to put something over the tranny hump and the rest.
It doesn't need to look original, just decent. Anything effective and cheap?
Thanks! B.

Thanks Mr. Stripe.
Its got a V8 with headers and pipes that go under the floorboard, and I do have the pipes wrapped. I think I'll need to go ahead and wrap part of the headers too.
Thanks for the tip!
Anyone else?

Rather than risk exhaust pipe failure due to thermal deterioration or rust, I would vote for a thermal barrier on the floor pan, preferably internal so it won't get wet.

Rather than wrap the exhaust, perhaps a HPC style coating? I've coated headers in a number of cars and it makes a big difference.

Then go to a local wrecking yard and get some heat shielding panels and place under the floor.

Finally you can add some dynamat on the inside to help with noise, heat and wear on the floor pan.

Cheers

I just put in some house carpet left over. I can drive in flops during the summers in Southern Nevada with no problem. Easy to change and cheap.
Good Luck

There's a very simple and cheap solution to this problem. CCOT sells an insulation that you can lay down beneath your floor mat. It's already pre-cut to the shape you need, and takes 10 minutes to install. I've had mine for over 15 years now and it's very effective. Surely you may be able to find similar material at Home Depot, but for $31 I won't bother cutting my own piece.

my solution currently being put into place is automotive insulative felt and then marine carpet over the top. dont have pics of it yet but the little ive done is coming out great and know from experience it provides great heat and sound insulation as well as looking good and being water proof for when the roof is off

More work, but you could fab a metal heat shield between the headers and the floor, if there is room. I like to keep the heat from ever getting to the floor, before I try to insulate the floor from the inside. You'll want to do both, if possible.

Wow, thanks for all the great info guys!!! This place is great :)

Well I think I might throw down some carpet over the CCOT insulation until I get around to doing a fancy job covering all of the floorboards and firewall. Probably end up making some metal heat shields for the underside too. I'm building this 40 into a more comfortable and civilized rig for longer range camping trips and this will really help.
Thanks again!!!!!
