Because I live in the Sonoran Desert and the best flowing and cooling radiator (*apart from a Ron Davis) is the TYC-1918. There are threads on this very topic with empirical data over on the Copper State Cruiser forum.

When its 118-120F outside, you study the options and make the best choice you have. I chose this radiator,

Plenty of 80s in the middle east/Australia running in temps at or above with OEM rads. Those climates is where Toyota does most of their R+D for the Land Cruiser.
I personally wouldn’t want a Chinese radiator in any of my vehicles let alone my cruiser.

You live in Denver. I live in Arizona. I stand by my decision,

TYC works very well. As mentioned above plenty of robust run time by many! Me included.

Well, looking promising so far. Plugs all look the same and not one steam cleaned. May not mean anything.
No fluid spraying out of the cylinders when cranking.

My 10 year old wifi borescope isn't working so I can't look at anything. Taking recommendations on a NOT $200 replacement if a decent one exists.

Sounded fine turning over. May be time for a compression test. I imagine my compression tester also no longer works.

piston pics. Couldn't really see the sides. normal or excessive buildup for 240k miles?
All pretty even except 3 and 4.

Last year and a half driving has been maybe 5 minutes each way week days.

Couldn't really tell if there was coolant anywhere.

After seeing the crappy Denso radiator my brother put in his GX470, I put a TYC radiator in another Toyota. I also (as an experiment) put a TYC alternator in my 7.3 Powerstroke Ford 10 years ago.

All have held up well. Yes - TYC is Chinese, but in this case, I don't think it means its junk.

Not correct most 80 owners do not know the engine temp because the Toyota dashboard temp meter was castrated . you need to use OBD measurements or install external temp meter.

The first thing I did was replace radiator I got a full brass, copper radiator my engine was running very hot.

I replaced every last part in the cooling system + modified the fan clutch to 30000 CPS and 95F. I did it all. Until TOOLSRUS RIP told me that many 80 owners in Arizona moved from OEM and others radiators to TYC and got much better results than any other radiator.

I live in Israel and I roam the Negev and Judea deserts and the Dath sea valley. Very hot environment and I travel to Jordan until the Iraqi border.

When I used to take my super charged Taco down to Panama I would swap coolant as soon as I got into Mexico. I would go from my north America mix of 70/30 coolant to water to 30/70. I noticed a difference. Water cools better so a weaker mix will also cool better.

Perhaps doing this in the spring and going back in the fall will help those that have cooling issues. If you live where it never freezes just run the 30/70 year round.

Cheers

I wonder if the OP got this rig running again.
Sorry all. Best update I have atm is all cylinders were about 165 psi compression but #4 was ~110. Pretty sure HG blew again most likely due to poor attention to detail by me. I just got back from houseboat trip and had tons to do to prep for it (boat maintenance). Its either going to my local shop I've had good experience with or a LC specialist I will need to tow it to.

The post you quoted is referring to ambient temperatures, not engine temperatures.
I was referring to TOYOTA engine temperature meter in the instrument cluster, I do not have a Toyota ambient temp meter in my rig

There is a mode on IH8MUD for fixing the meter you are more than welcomed to read all the pages of the trad and 10 others like it.

93-97 Coolant Temperature Gauge Modification - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/93-97-coolant-temperature-gauge-modification.64252/

If you are counting the temp on the Toyota temp meter, then good luck, it is junk I have OBD + engine guard installed it does not move even when I get 218 F on the OBD directly from the ECM
