I pulled the trigger and ordered a Safari snorkel last week. I installed it earlier this week. All went well. I didn't document it as it has been done before. Took me about an hour and a half I suppose. I even was able to tighten the back two nuts. :flipoff2: I am 6'0" and 150 lbs.n I reached in the same hole that the air cleaner assembly attaches to the snorkel and snaked my arm back there with a 1/4" ratchet. Wasn't comfortable, and I don't see how anyone bigger than me could do it. I also used the supplied plastic inserts for the pillar. Seemed to work well. I just drilled the holes and used a Dremel to make them square. I kind of rushed through it as well...I taped the template to the fender then took a punch and made a dimple for each hole to drill. Didn't second guess or double check  and just started drilling. Everything fit perfectly the first try. I was impressed. Stupid 3 1/2" hole saw wasn't cheap tho. Anyways, here are some pics of a snorkel ya'll have seen dozens of times. Also there are some pics as to why it wouldn't hurt to have it...

Not me. LOL It was deep enough right before those pics I ended up with water in the truck. My truck didn't have a factory amp but apparently the wiring is back there. It got wet and played hell on my radio/dome light fuse. I ended up cutting the connector off and wrapping it in electric tape. Problem solved. Oh and it sure was a mess to get that red clay water s*** out of my carpet. Oh well spic and span now. :)

Very cool! I didnt look at your location and when I saw the last pics I knew that was Texas dirt. Nice job on the snorkel!

Dan

Nice job on the snorkel those last pics reminded me of why I got a snorkel in the first place. My first time wheeling the 80 I was about as deep as you were and was panicked about getting flooded.

Thanks, finally got to see some photos of the metal tech bumper with the tall stinger.

Can you send me your arm in the mail to use. :grinpimp:

I'm 6'7 275 lbs and I can't see how the hell i'm going to install mine next week.

It`s always good to have that extra insurance, trail on:clap:

Um, couldn't you have just driven around that mud hole?

Sure, you can always drive around stuff. You could also drive a Santa Fe around that mud hole, what's your point?

Nice jpb, prepare for the magnet effect of stupid questions

Say whats that?
A snorkel
No really?
Ok, its an external exhaust pipe
Then why does it say snorkel on it?

How far above the roof do the snorkels ride? I am trying to figure out if it will fit in my garage.

Ihasfip... I'm pretty knew in the off-road scene and being a LC owner, so forgive me for any elementary questions... when you went through the water hole did you have your carpet ripped out? I've got mine out now and am debating whether to just leave it out or not... seems like not having it in would allow me more so to do things like you did in that pic huh ???

Where's the fun in that?

If you have a factory roof rack it should sit about flush with that.

Good job

.....on the snorkel. Look like fun in the hole.

Looks nice! Yup, there are holes like that here in central/south Texas as well. Sadly some are now part of a city park or something so no going there anymore.

BTW, Is your rig green or blue? Your hood looks just like my blueish one (clear coat missing and what not, but worse). Been trying to figure out if that color never help up or just lack of care.

My rig is green. I am going to Herculine the roof and hood. Tired of looking at the crappy clearcoat.

No my carpet is still in. I pride myself on having a near spotless interior at all times. I was really unhappy with getting it all wet and muddy but oh well you have to pay to play. Several hours detailing the inside and it was good as new.

About the height of the roof rack I suppose.

Funny you say that, I have had several people ask what it was. I was at the drive through at the bank and all 6 teller ladies gathered around the mic to ask and intently find out. I had a older business looking guy ask me at the gas station. I told him it was a periscope. He said "Oh, for when you go under water, that makes sense." He was dead serious. Like he thought my truck was a nuclear submarine or something. I then explained its real purpose. LOL

No point in explaining it if you don't already see the point.

Yea well, we could also all just drive on the road too right? And not have lifted 4x4's. Maybe we should all just ride bicycles. Or better yet, just not leave our homes? Why do you have a full time 4WD truck that gets 10 mpg? Why not get a minivan?
