I'm looking for a consensus on the following amongst Mudders with decent snow chain experience:

I could have available to me a set of diamond tread snow chains that max out at 31x9.5x15. My current tires are 31x10.5x15 (advertised).
How much of a chance is it that the chains would fit? Is that extra inch of width going to take up too much circumference?

I realize this is the less-than ideal method, but all I have to work with right now is theory so fire away.

Thanks, I've checked out tirechains.com and several other such sites. Just looking to see how critical that 1" addtl width is in other people's real world experience. No worries if it doesn't pan out, as ebay currently has one or two good used sets. I'd prefer chains to cables, as chains fair better in mud.

If they are a good price get them. if you need that extra inch add a link
As mentioned, you can add several links to the side chains to make up the difference. You probably won't have any issues with the cross sections being long enough to allow the side chains to be up on the sidewalls away from the tread. I used to cut down snow chains from semi trucks to fit on my 35 x 12.50's. Nothin to it. Just like Tinker Toyts. John

That's what I ended up deciding. Screwing with traditional ladder-style chains is dead simple, just never used the new style with the diamond pattern and cable on the inside circumference.

Order made. Thanks to all for your input.
