Alright guys, so, a couple days ago I was seeing how far I could get up Pearl Pass (in CO), I came across two avalanche fields still with some snow and debris. I took about 6 running starts to bust through the first one. with the last shot at it, I found there was a drainage ditch underneath. I sank up to my belly, sliders, everything. STUCK! After a couple hours of digging, I was out.

But here is the problem, now whenever i turn right i get this bad cyclical noise. It only happens when turning right with a bit of speed or pressure into the turn.

I'm wondering what this is, it sounds similar to a brake dust shield grind noise. But why would that make noise when its attached to the rotor and not moving.

My other thought is that I need to rebuild my birf seals. they were about ready to be serviced anyways. Could water/snow/pressure have worn it down faster and now it makes noise? But only when I turn right?

What is this noise, it's driving me nuts.

thanks, pics of the stuck to come

i assume there is no noticeable damage underneath right? I would guess there is something stuck that is rubbing only when you turn right. Without looking at it or hearing it im afraid thats the best i could do.

Like the photos. I would jack it up, do a visual inspection, and shake it down. If I am remembering the set up correctly it seems excessive wheel bearing play might allow the rotor to make contact with the backing plate under a load as you suspect. Especially if the plate has been pushed closer to the rotor from plowing snow.

the only noticeable damage is the rotor dust shields are bent just a bit on the bottom, but they do not make contact. i'll try bending it out and eliminating that option

I'd check the brake rotor dust shield. It probably got bent a little bit and is contacting the brake rotor. A screwdriver should alleviate the problem.

The dust shield isn't attached to the rotor BTW.

Nice photos! Been waiting to see the trail breaking on Pearl Pass. Sorry to hear about the issues....

you've been waiting to see your old rig back in the mountains. love the truck. absolutely love it. just not with this damn noise. i'll sort it out though.

but the thing is that is getting me, is that i only makes contact when i turn right, which should be relieving load on the right wheel. where the dust shield is bent.

Could the whole plate be distorted, and rubbing on the top maybe? Have you checked wheel play?

Either of the tie rod ends could be pushing the plate in slightly when you turn. Nice truck BTW! It's nice to see that it isn't a mall cruiser anymore.

sorry bout your problem, im going up pearl this weekend from the crested butt side, i live in gunny i ll let u know how far i get going to do taylor also, made it through the river last weekend then hit snow, from the looks of your pic it will be a long time for the top to melt out on your side since its in the shade

You know what you can do with your comments D-bag....I miss 'scuba steve' (what the wifey used to call it cause of the snork).

Yep, been waiting...hope your problem is nothing major. Have to live vicariously through others now....even if it is Y-charged. :flipoff2: Andy.

i made it maybe a 1/4 mile from the first time you cross the creek. still a ways from the Montazzuma turn off. its going to be a while before you can make it all the way.

i was talking to a dirtbike guy when i was stuck up there and he said that the top turn from taylor is still snowed in. the narrow sketchy part. i think i will be waiting for a while before bashing that bit of snow.

Lift the truck so the wheel that is making the noise is off the ground. To verify that the bearings are not loose grab the tire from the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and try to push first on the top then on the bottom. If there's any back and forth movement, your bearings are loose.

If that's not it, remove the tire and check to see if there isn't a rock caught between the rotor and the dust shield.

Regards

Alvaro

LOL. You're an internet wheeler now! :flipoff2: I shouldn't say anything. Mine's been on jackstands in driveway for about 4 weeks now.
