raptor that lives in my neighborhood.

This owlet (barely fledged) is one of two that the parents raised in our yard in downtown Tallahassee last year. It is looking (longingly) down on my fishpond most likely thinking of mother owl, who is a great hunter... she ate my $80 Koi out of that same fishpond. She also fed the neighbor's fat cat to the owlets in the front yard. There is one male cat that sprays the wifey's car tires that I wish she would eat!

Quite a treat most of the year to see the mom and dad out by the fish pond watering up... they can be quite noisy in the early spring as they claim their territory yet again. I know this pair has lived in one of the trees next door, across the street or in our yard for at least five years. They are very large Barred Owls.

Below is a close up (from a web site) that someone else took of an adult -

    This about sums it up:

Bald buzzard, the fishhawk or osprey. See Fishhawk.
    2. A blockhead; a dunce.
It is common, to a proverb, to call one who can not be taught, or who continues obstinately ignorant, a buzzard. Goldsmith.
