EDIT: sorry re-read what you wrote.

The pump seizing would snap the belt and start smoking like crazy if you kept driving/idling. IIRC that same belt goes to the water pump and then crank. I think the potential is there but I'm not 100% certain.

Yeah. When the smog pump siezes, the water pump also stops spinning, then your truck will overheat. Will this spin a bearing? I don't know...
