The smog pump has numerous fan blades inside. If one of them fails (breaks) it makes the clicking sound you are hearing. The smog pump should not be oiled and if your Power Steering pump leaks, the fluid drips onto the smog pump and will cause the smog pumb to fail. I bougth a replacement from O'Rielly's and got a lifetime warranty. I have replaced it twice. The job is not too tough.
