Anyone have a DXF file of any skid plates for our vehicles?

Been too busy myself to get underneath and measure things so wanted to ask here before I go making my own later.

If I go that route, I'll be happy to share whatever I create.

Forgot I even made this thread.

Anyway, thought I'd bring it resolution.

Mock up with some carboard, including any bends I'd need done.

Time to cut the test piece.

Side by side.

And now the bends.

Nice.

Fitment proved to be a success with the exception of one of the mounting holes being off by as little as 1/16".

Not bad considering I half-ass measured everything while on my back.

Wanted to include drain access for easy servicing without requiring removal of the skid.

Just mocking up the rear mount to the frame.

Had two different ideas about how I'd do it, anyway onto the real thing.

With one of the mounting holes adjusted, and the addition of the two rear mount holes, I made a last minute change to center my name around the drain access.

Onto cutting; opted to use 1/4" for strength, and cause I had plenty extra.

Anyone that does CNC at home can appreciate these clean, dross free cuts especially on thicker steel.

Still need to bend it!

The trio, although the cardboard cutout went right into the trash after this pic and the 16 gauge draft piece got recycled.

Mounting holes were perfect, as expected.

And here, figuring out how to quickly mock up the mount.

20230621_143715.jpg

I had the idea to sandwich two pieces of 1/4" around the frame, with the inner bracket being part of an assembly with yet another plate at the end that bolts into the skid.

For that to happen it only made sense to use carriage bolts.

Since this was meant to be a one-day job, and being short on time, I made a temporary solution to use solid rod to figure out the angle and length of square tube needed for the real mount.

That and "while I was there" I decided to weld on that front diff armor I had in my spare metal box for the longest.

Skipped the whole process of taking pics but here was the aftermath of said mount (and cheap paint).

All mounted up!

Even tested it right the next day; it's freaking solid even on the temporary mount setup.

Anyway, no longer got the LC as I got rid of it about a day or two after all that.

Maybe I'll post up some pics of a CAT shield request another member has made. Just waiting on measurements.

How to you like the Langmuir table? I bought mine 1.5 years ago and haven’t set it up yet.

Use it all the time.

Been meaning to modify it to a larger variant due to the sheer number of requests I get for larger items.

But then I'd need a larger press brake as well.

Nice! Are you looking to get another cruiser? I'd be interested in the CAT shield for sure. I still need to make brackets to put my Trail Gear sliders on so that would integrate nicely!

Thanks!

Naw I'm on the hunt for a Pick Up or single cab Tacoma; had a Tacoma before (as well as a 3rd Gen 4R) so really familiar with the platform.

This way I can have an off-road only vehicle.

Someone recently messaged me about a CAT shield, told him I'd be happy to fab one up.

Didn't expect it but got a customer request for this skid plate for his recently acquired 80 series.

Asked if I'm providing metal or if he is; wants me to do so.

Love when free scrap I've got laying around works out perfectly.

Also 1/4" thick so it'll be beefy AF.

Don't have the measurements for all the bends recorded so I'll refrain from throwing it on the press brake until he brings his LC over.

Helps I bought the hardware I used in bulk too so I've got all the hardware as well.

Found measurements just as my power had gone out. Soon as it was back, I cut the brackets and finished the bends.

Told the customer I can't finish the rear mount without his vehicle present though.

Pointless thread, I know.

Just waiting to hear back from a member regarding dimensions in order to make a CAT shield.

Also, that skid plate I made has yet to be picked up. I'm the dummy for even making it; he's waiting to get paid in order to pay me for it.

Got so bored I even painted it cause it was a sore to look at.

Is there like a standard size you make the CAT shield or are there certain dimensions you need? Just wondering since I still need to put on my trail gear sliders which will require me to fab up mounts, etc so I really wouldn't know the specifics until they're on.

A member simply asked if I'd make a set and what I would charge.

He isn't running any sliders, at least that I'm aware of, and I told him with my LC gone if he can sketch it up (or put it on cardboard) we can figure it out.

My sliders had a built-in cat shield.

I'd just charge for cost of material and shipping since someone else would be going through the effort of gathering dimensions. He said what he came up with wasn't very big either (my cutting limits are 23 x 33).

Ok cool I'll hit you up then. I wouldn't think it should be any bigger than those limits. The sliders are next up on my list along w/ the IPOR skidplate I bought for cheap off a raffle winner at Coal Miner Classic last summer. And my part-time kit, and knuckles again, and on-board air.....it never ends LOL.

Did you find a truck yet?

If it's within those limits, perfect. I already have a 2nd Gen Tacoma skid I need to cut next month and not to mention a ton of brake conversion brackets for a shop.

Good s*** though, if I kept the LC I would've made more skids to protect the underside. Being a stay at home dad with a 3 month old keeps me busy enough though

No truck yet, maybe not for a little bit. Got a GX470 to hold me over and still have to fix the F250 so there's that. And wife wants a GX460 so...

Kids eat time, I've got 4 LOL. I designed my rear bumper and some awning mounts in Solidworks so I can draw something up when ready. Used to do tool and die design in that and Pro/E.
