After signing up for the Moab trip I started to research and dig up threads on items people put on thier "must have" for a trip to Moab. The first on that list was a set of sliders. I had really wanted to build myself a set but with a new baby and a 2 year old, plus wife, work yadda yadda yadda I was running out of time to get it done allong with the 30 other things that are "must have" as well.

Long story short I hooked up with Karl over at pnwfab.com here in Oregon City, Oregon and we were able to prototype a set for me.

Here is what we were able to come up with. 1/4 steel 2x2, 1/4 mounting plates, and .120 1.75 HREW tubes. I am in the process of getting these painted and will have them welded this afternoon. I wanted to post up on my progress and give props to a great guy.

Karl travelled 3x to my place (45 mins) one way to do all the measurements and fabbing.

Take a look at his website and note that these are priced very well at $450 and include powdercoating! (I chose plain because of time issues)

Please note I am not selling these but am a very pleased customer!!

Those are Nice!

They make em for my Tacoma too!

Very nice. I rattle can painted mine. I was thinking about powder coating mine. I will see how many scrapes I end up with at Moab. If you like Red Ale, I am brewing some for Moab so will have plenty to share. :)

They appear to be weld on. I may be stepping beyond my knowledge base here, but it seems I recall seeing in multiple slider threads that you want to avoid vertical welds on the frame. Will those be vertical welds, or is there some degree of angle to the plates?

isn't there a shop in Newberg that builds sliders?

But they look good.

Those are awesome! I am all over it. I am going to look them up online right now. I am lucky enough to live close to save on freight.

Those look great man! Would love to check them out up closer if I ever make it back to any of the CC meetings.

:meh::meh::meh:

Just kidding. They look really tight:bounce: Glad to see you got some protection down there. About time:clap:

I got your Meh right here: :flipoff2:

I was planning on the next meet but looks like I am working. May come to the BPP on the 19th for a bit.

Look me up when you come to town if you would like to talk cruisers. Also Karl is a great guy and you will be treated well.

Mark and LT at Metal Tech build sliders for 80's/ FJ's/ 40's not 60's. you can only ask so many times before they get tired of you asking. Great guys and I still swing by thier shop to talk Creuisers they just don't build stuff for 60's (besides really sweet cages)

But they look good.

Thanks!!

Those look nice. I like the big gussets for x-tra strength.

I just hope my welds hold!

Yes they are weld on and yes they have virtical welds. After much debating and a ton of searching I have found that most if not all the threads were sliders have been welded on in vertical welds have been holding up for a long time under a great deal of abuse. I would also add that my welds are solid across the bottom and split on the virtical.

welding them in or bolt on? They look great by the way.

Weld on bro, see you sunday.

pics of yours when you have 'em already installed

Hmm free beer?!! your on. We are ruffing it at a hotel in town so I will be loitering at the campgrounds in the eve. hit me with a camp spot and I will swing by.

Those are Nice!

thanks for the words!!

yes they do. they look great on 4runners and fj's as well.

I had a little difficulty getting them welded as my welder is puny and didn't want to lay a bead to save it's arse. but otherwise they fit like a glove and are built ver well. :bounce:

14 days to Moab.... 1 down, 29 more items to go

Those are killer... nice price too!

I won't be able to make it back to the meet this month either, as I will be down at Chinook Winds for 4 days for a pool tournament starting that thursday morning, but would definately love to check them out a little more. Seeing all these slider threads is really giving me the itch to get the BL on (that I still have to buy )and get some sliders going for mine. I wrinkled the lip last fall at CTW anyway, so I'm just gonna hack it off.

Those look great! Too bad we'll miss you on thursday but see you saturday. What else is on the list?
