You do not need to use a sealant.. It is bonded like JimC said and being a gasket material will hold to the carb plate and carb. If you are having it "seize up" that means a good bond is happening and you have no leaks.
 
Brush synthetic engine oil on the gasket faces before applying the spacer to the manifold and setting the carb on it. That will both soften the gasket for a better seal, and reduce sticking if it needs to come apart later.
 
Just doing some studying in prepping for my carb to arrive. (Thanks Jim for the rebuild!)
I bought a carb plate new from SOR. I also ordered the gasket in their picture in this thread. I will now be putting that gasket aside now that I am schooled in the "Proper" way to mount your carb. Glad I am doing my homework!
