pondering whether or not to swap in a full floater into my 43. which will eventually wind up back in canada. im just wondering about parts availability in NA or any other issues with these, since most there were semi floaters i think.

any advice?

I would, but I'm biased.. All of mine are. All the parts youre likely to need are the bearings and seals, which are the same as the front anyway.. If youre rough on your rig you might snap an axle shaft or shear the axle shaft studs at the hub, the studs are the same as the front, the axle might be hard to find.. I run lunchbox lockers in the rear of two of mine and havent had any trouble with the FF.. Atleast if you do snap an axle your wheel doesnt fall off..

hey redsands ... just do it here and now.
I took the time & did it to mine.
Full floaters are good and plenty here - just look at the donor vehicle candidates and try to grab the best available.

x3 do it

You can get after market chromoly FF axle shafts. What I did was to bring along a spare set of FF axle shafts/inner seals when wheeling the truck, it's a good chance you're only one in the group with FF axle so finding spare on the trail could be tough.

Like these ones Poly Performance Inc. :: Axles & Accessories :: Poly Performance Axles :: Toyota FJ40, FJ60 & FJ80 Full-Float Rear Axle Shafts - JK Synergy Suspension Systems, Fox Racing Shox, Beard, CTM, Johnny Joints®, Currie Enterprises, Edelbrock, Total Chaos, R

These and the 10mm 100 series stud upgrade should see it pretty reliable..

The advantage with having the locker and the FF is that If I do snap an axle I can continue in 3 wheel drive.. I've done this 3 times now, due to busted CVs..
