I have recently finished replacing the rear sill and both rear quarters. I have located (measured and drilled) the holes for the rear lower hinges and the tire carrier for my 1976 FJ40. It’s the old plate style carrier.

My question is: is it wise/needed for me to put the doors (and the top) on to ensure they fit correctly before welding the hinge mounts back in place, or is there enough slop in the them such that I don’t need to worry as long as I think I’m within an eighth of an inch of where they were originally (which I do but I’ve been wrong before - quite often actually)?

If I had the opportunity to dial in hinge placement, I would certainly take it. Which means bolting the top on.
