:-/I am putting new aftermarket shackles on my 78 fj-40.
They lift up 2". My question(anybody?) is should I get longer shocks. No one at AutoZone could help because all there shocks are referenced to a particular vehicle and they are not able to tell me what shocks are longer than the ones I have on the fj-40. Anyone can help?

I put longer shackles on my toy truck, and found no problem. You may lose some travel, but for everyday use it works great.

Honestly for the best fit you need to test your flex. Unbolt your current shocks and flex each side of each axle to it's limit. Measure from the top attachment point to the bottom point. Take those measurements and check out some shock manufacturer's websites for application guides. They should give an extended and compressed measurement. Match the measurements and the mounting styles up to get a perfect match. Good luck!!

those sites have the listings for what fits...and there is a Excell spreadsheet in the Tech links with the part numbers for ALL manufacturers - should allow you to pick most any aftermarket shock from there.

As everybody knows, I like my Doestch Tech DT3000's....
