I put twenty something litres of Lead Free Super in my Hilux's sixty something litre Tank. :ban: I then ran/walked 4km home, to tell Mum.

We were going to go to Bunyip State Forest tomorrow, with Dad in his FZJ80.

Isn't there a restrictor on the nozzle preventing that from happening?

nope diesel filler openings are huge (to accomodate the truck pumps etc) we aussies don't need saving from ourselves. Unleaded fueled cars have a restricter to stop you putting diesel or leaded in. and leaded cars will fit a diesel nozzle, ask my dad how he knows

was it wrongly labeled or did you mess up

Edit: waited for the pics to load...

that sign is a tad confusing, but the pumps are clearly labelled

So whats the issue with running lead free gas in your Petrol hilux? Here in the US we have no choice but to run Lead Free and nobody has any problems with it...IE my LC with 2F runs lead free as did my 2.4l Hilux? Just wondering why it's and issue? Or am i confusing Diesel with Petrol With Gas with Lead free vx non lead free?

oh and BTW couple weeks ago when i got the Cruiser back together again we only had a couple 1/2 gallons of petrol(hehe) laying around for the lawn mower......and one 1/2 gallon of diesel(DOH)...pops poured the diesel in their and she smoked a bit but run OK.

You are the idiot, not the station. And why did you feel the need to "run home and tell mum"? You screwed up, be a man, and fix it yourself.

Even if the Tank had a Drain, I'd still have to dispose of 40+litres of Petroleum.

Most stations would let you drain it right in their holding tanks. My buddy had an old Ford and mistakenly filled it up with deisel. We drove about a mile down the road and it started bucking. Limped back to the station, drained it back into their tanks, and then filled it back up with gas. It bucked a little for a couple of miles, but good after that....I think it needed a good cleaning anyway.. ;)

yeah i was wondering, why not just drain it at home (4 k's according to your walk)... flat tow it behind the 80.

i can see how you missed up (lead free super pump handle same color as most diesel pumps. but still, i've alternated between a diesel 40 and a petrol 40 for 4 years and not messed up (same dash, same fuel filler... sometimes you gotta stop and think which one you pulled up in)...

don't know if i'd run a 50:50 mix, but a 25% mix of petrol runs fine...

as for the lead free super vs petrol, i don't think there's a problem, but the australian public has been led to believe that it will cause valve seat failure.

only real issue is our "super" was fairly high octane, where our regular unleaded is low octane (i think you guys would consider it "water")

so some engines with highish compression ping... but 90% of the motoring public don't know cr@p and follow the bylines fed to them by the petrol companies and the GOV.

edit: my first post from the dunny :D i love mobile technology

Yeah its not hard putting fuel in a car, I put Diesel in Landcruiser, LPG and Unleaded in my work van, Two stroke in the lawn mower and Premium Unleaded in the wifes car, Image how hard it was when i owned a motorbike and a boat, I needed a science degree ;) :)

i have a science degree... what you tryin to say.

it's easier when you have an obviously different interior, because your brain learns to associate diesel with one, unleaded with the other... when it's the same color/interior/ filler... hmmm. but i never made the mistake.
