In my never ending quest for free/cheap mods with varying degrees of effectiveness, I decided to test out the fitment of the Toyota-style, 2UZ throttle body cover on our engines. I'm not a personal fan of the large plastic cover that the 100 series comes with from the factory, but I don't really like the bare engine, either. After some forum searching about fitment of this particular cover and not much info found on confirmed fitment, I figured that I would visit one of my favorite local salvage yards to pull this cover from a Sequoia and test it out. It won't add any HP or MPGs, but it is a neat detail.

I can confirm that this cover does fit with no issues, installed with the corresponding brackets. The brackets bolt into existing positions with no clearance issues. The cover does touch the intake tube a bit, but can be flexed into position and bolted down with minimal effort, and it could probably be slightly bent to clear (the Toyota cover is sheet metal).

Based on this fitment, I'm going to also assume that the V8 4Runner cover should also fit, with the corresponding brackets. I can't comment on non-VVTi vs. VVTi covers; this fitment is based on a 2002 Sequoia cover installed on a 2001 LX (non-VVTi).

Pics (please excuse the rust and dirtiness of my engine bay... I live in Michigan, haha):

2 brackets are required (picture is before pulling the brackets from the donor Sequoia). The left bracket will bolt into the top of the engine on an existing, hex shaped threaded area on the manifold. The right bracket bolts in place of the existing LC/LX bracket.

Installed on my LX. The 2 rear brackets for the OE cover can be removed; I did so after taking this pic. You can also see where the Toyota-style cover makes slight contact with the intake tube, at the lower left hand corner of the cover.

what was the purpose other than consmetics?

Looks good, any difference in valvetrain noise at a Stop light?

I've had the OE plastic cover off since I changed my spark plugs a few weeks ago. I haven't noticed any difference between OE, this cover, and no cover.
