Sensor in rear trim panel? (1 Viewer)

I could swear I’ve seen a post that mentions this thing but can’t find it anymore. Does anyone know what this thing is?

I am thinking about putting some power ports in that recess with a panel over it but wasn’t sure what that sensor was for.

Assuming that is correct, I’m assuming that it would be ok to relocate it slightly if necessary. For example, fill that recess completely with a cover but mount the sensor on the outside of the new cover. Hmmm…
