I have a 13BT build coming up later this year ( doing my homework ) , i recently tore down a 14B for parts & noticed it has a roller cam & lifters , alloy shaft mount rockers , etc

wondering if a 13BT has a roller cam & lifters , alloy rockers & wondering if it has similar size oil pump as a 14BT ?

If not maybe i could put the 14B roller cam & new lifters ( possibly a re-grind ), etc in the 13BT & make custom length pushrods ???

Hey Rick, heres a picture of the red block 13BT that will be sent your way soon. As you can see it has the black plate bolted to the side of the block above the alloy oil cooler cover. This means it does not have a roller cam but instead has solid lifters. As far as in can tell none of the 13BT's had a roller cam - even the later blue block versions.

Darren,

cheers for that mate ,

i wonder what size the lifter bores are for each motor ( 13BT & 14BT ), if they are the same - would'nt he too hard to mod the block for the 14B roller cam as already have one , that , the lifters & extra stroke should make athe 13BT go a bit harder , what you rreckn ? just have to watch my spending .

finished work today & driving to greymouth >>> haast >>>Wanika >> Qtown >> CHCH startn tomoorow lunchtime for the weekend , start a new job on monday . wanted to go for a month but 4x4 is not set up yet ,

have any photos of the block behind that plate ? i have this picture in my head of what i can remember what the 14B looked like from that side , they had little screws that hold the roller lifters in place , stopping them from turning & damaging the cam . Roller Cam & lifters are proven to make power ( thru less friction ) over flat top lifters . already have them , just need to replace the little wheels on the lifters as accidentally mixed them up !

As far as i can tell you wont be able to fit the roller lifters to a 13BT as the block casting is totally different in that area. The 13BT has no 'meat' to screw the guide pins into, and as you know, these are required to secure the roller lifters in place.

If you want a roller cam you should use the 14B block.

Enjoy your trip, the drive from the glaciers through to Queenstown is pretty damn impressive. Swing by Arrowtown and call into the bakery at the end of the mainstreet - awesome meat pies....

WHO ATE ALL THE PIES!!!!!

I have both those pins in your photo, you know what the little one is for ( bottom of your photo ) , cheers for the photo mate , it actually looks pretty easy to make them work provided they have the same bore. 2 ways i can see of doing them , 1/ alot of aftermarket roller lifters for petrol V8's etc have them attached in a pairs via slotted & moveable link between the 2 , when one is at lift - the other is on the cam base circle, also maybe i can attach a piece of steel ( that has vertical slots in it , aswell as tapped holes for the pins ) running Horizontal across the tops of the lifter bores & attached to either side , maybe between each bore aswell- just a thought !

yeh your right snailtrail , by the time i build a stroked 13BT with the 14BT stuff on it , it will cost way more than a 15B-FFt ( 16 valve - turbo version ) or what ever that fft code is . I went to a specialist diesel injection place here in CHCH on friday , think they are called DLS or something . was qouted up to 2 grand to fully recondition the injection pump & couple hundred $$ per injector , plus add the build on top of that , plus all the bits & pieces you forget to add on when you build a new engine as you know , ends up blowing way out .

you made a wise point - cheers for that , hadn't realised before that !.A 13BT is s*** compared to a a 14BT and a 14BT is s*** compared to a 15B-fft ( 16 valve turbo version ) I have seen the 16 valve natural 15B with 70,000klm with warranty from Jap diesel importers for around 4-5 grand , might save up & get one of them instead . Can always modify it & put a turbo & intercooler on it , etc later .

Do you know from your 15B catalogue/ manual /disc's what parts are different between the natural & turbo version ( 16V versions ) ??? are the rods & pistons different, etc ???

( looks like i am puttn the 13BT back on trademe.co.nz )
