I have no idea. how do you get this thing out of there? Bolts are out- this is on a 77.

TIA

Pete

If you're talking about the sheet metal with the hump for fan clearance, I believe the two studs at the bottom of the radiator cradle also pass through it. You need to remove the two 14mm nuts holding the radiator in then raise the radiator just enough to slip the sheet metal out

yup

yup just removed mine

the bolts that extend down are welded to the radiator cradle

I'm talking about the cover that goes from the oil pan forward to under the rad and goes from frame rail to frame rail. It has maybe 10 bolts holding it on. I have it loose- all the bolts are out but there is no way to pull it out. Maybe I need to jack up the frame for more clearance with tie rods.

I never knew one was ever installed there.

Maybe a picture would help us out... I sure don't have anything that meets that description on my rig.:hmm:

skid plate

do you mean the piece of thin metal with the bump out for the fan or the skid plate?

Its 51441 on the diagram. Like I said it goes from the right rail all the way across to the left rail and from the front cross member almost to the oil pan.

Thanks-

Pete

From the picture it looks like what everyone else is describing. You throw me for a loop when you say there are 10 bolts however. I just put mine in this morning. 2 bolts on the side and two nuts under the radiator brace. There are some screws holding a second piece of the splash guard together. Once that's loose then there are a few more nuts (brackets on sides) on the radiator brace to be able to move the radiator brace. Once you can raise it about 2", the splash guard should slide towards the back. Then with some creative angles you should be able to pull it out alltogether.

Are those common to all years?

My transmission/transfer skid plate is missing. But I had no clue there were other skid or splash plates in the engine compartment. I wonder how their absence might affect cooling. Also, they would help keep down water splash during fording.

Ok- I'll have another look and see if I can loosen and raise the radiator brace. This is on a BJ so I'm guessing there may be some differences- though I didn't expect them to be great.

Will post back- THX

Sorry for asking such a simple question- I only get 30 minutes a week if I'm lucky for wrenching these days.
