I thought some people may be interested to see this antenna mod. Over the weekend the significant other broke another power antenna mast at the car wash. So I completely ditched the power antenna and searched out a fixed option for her. Here is what I cam up with using the factory fender mount/trim, a 6ft antenna extension wire, and a cheap antenna from AutoZone. I ran the extension wire from my head unit to the fender area inside the engine bay (I should never have to fish another antenna wire thru the dash again), I modified the factory antenna fender penetration mount/trim to accept the new antenna base, and used the included hex nut (fit perfectly) to cinch it all down tight to the fender. This design results in a factory trimmed antenna mount with the universal female thread to accept just about any screw on antenna. The antenna kit came with a 31" metal mast which should be fine, but I may change to something more flexible in the future (car wash proof).
Here is a link to the item I purchased.
