Hey everyone,
It’s time to list my 1994 FZJ80, affectionately known as “The Notorious B.G.E.” This rig has been comprehensively built for extended backcountry travel and tackling the tougher trails we have out here in the Southwest. My approach to all of my vehicles is that they should be "used but never abused" and there are countless people on this site that can attest to both my attention to building things the right way and making sure they work as intented and keeping them in working order. Most of the work on this one was don locally by @Cruiserhiggs including the engine replacement.
If you want the full history of my ownership, check out the complete build thread here: TheGrrrrr's 1994 80-Series Build Thread
The chassis has ~393,500 miles on it. However, do not let that number scare you off. The mechanicals, drivetrain, and suspension have been thoroughly overhauled with OEM and aftermarket upgarded parts. Over $50,000 has been invested since 2019 to completely bulletproof this truck. Yes, I have the receipts. Driving down the highway at 70mph, the truck rides smooth, quiet, no rattles, tight steering and just generally feels like a new truck, even on 37's. If I could use it to tow my Cayman, I'd be selling my 200 instead.
Just the tip of the iceberg of what has been done to this rig:
Engine & Drivetrain
- Motor: New 4.5L 1FZ-FE installed by Higgy's in August 2021 (approx. 15,000 miles on the motor).
- Oil Health: I have a fresh Blackstone Labs oil report from March 2025 showing excellent health and typical break-in wear for a fresh motor. I just sent another sample in today (4/13/26) and should have it back in 2 weeks. I expect it to look even better.
- Gearing: Nitro 4.88 gears
- Lockers: Factory rear e-locker and ARB front air locker (Triple Locked)
- Recent baseline maintenance (Jan/Feb 2024): New fuel pump, fuel sock, ignition coil assembly, ignition control module, and OEM O2 sensors.
- Redhead upgraded and ported steering box with a 105-Series Sector Shaft
- Front knuckle rebuild with upgraded spindles and bearings (Completed Dec 2023)
- Delta 3L Radius Arms and front sway bar drop kit
- Delta Rear Spring Retainer
- Old Man Emu (OME) Nitrocharger shocks and springs
- Whiteline Heavy Duty Rear Sway Bar
- Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops (Front & Rear)
- PowerStop Z36 Extreme Brake Pads and rotors.
- 17” Method 305NV Titanium Wheels
- 37x12.5x17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T Tires (Installed Jan 2024 - plenty of life left)
- Spidertrax 1.5” Wheel Spacers
- APEX RPV Fast Deflating Valve Stems
- ARB Front bumper
- Sliders of unknown origin but very very stout and look great.
- Avid Cruisers Rear bumper with swingout
- U-POL Raptor Liner exterior coating (Applied Oct 2019). This is incredible for pinstripe resistance on tight brushy trails.
- Prinsu Roof Rack
- ARB Safari Snorkel with a Sy-Klone Series 9001 Air Precleaner
- Rigid D-SS Series Hood Pods and AUDEXEN LED Work Lights
- Land Shark Outfitters KISS Drawers in the rear cargo area
- Full Delta console and center cluster gauge.
- New dash trim and switches.
- Full dash bulb refresh and wiring to activate locker indicators with aftermarket locker setup.
- Yaesu FTM400XDR HAM Radio
- WOLFBOX 12" 4K Rear View Mirror Camera system (a must-have when packed to the roof)
- Sony stereo head unit with Kicker CS speakers
- Window regulators and door motors replaced (2020/2021) so the windows actually roll up and down like they should.
- Dometic CFX3-75 DZ Dual Zone Fridge/Freezer
- 20lb Power Tank for fast fills and running air tools.
I have a massive spreadsheet tracking nearly every dollar spent, part number, and installation date during my ownership, which will be handed over to the buyer.
Happy to answer any questions, provide specific photos, or show the truck locally in the Scottsdale area or at Cruise Moab.
