I found a replacement 4-sp tranny for my Pig, but discovered last night that there is SEVERE stepping on the splines where the t-case input gear rides. I would guess that this tranny lived for a time behind a V-8.

Is this stepping acceptable, typical, or normal? I've installed a few trannies now, but I don't remember this kind of spline wear. Seems like you'd feel the slop going on/off throttle.

Opinions?

Find another one....there are pleanty of them out there in good serviceable condition yet.

Good luck!

Not sure what you mean about a "step". I had above-normal wear on both output shaft and input gear. The normally thick splines were worn down to sharp points if that makes any sense. Vehicle had significant "clunk" in and out of load going down road. Above wear would allow a couple of degrees of backlash between gear and shaft. My fix was to install H41 and new input gear. HTH

That's what I thought-

I'll see if the guy I got it from has another with a good shaft, or see if he'll take it back.

Thanks!
