Just wondering if there is any emissions checking here in Sandoval County? I just moved to Corrales and I am wondering whether to keep it registered in OH where I have no emissions (at least where it is registered) or go ahead and register it here in NM....

Thanks in advance.

Corrales, NM

Technically.... Yes

Cut and past from this site:

5. Do residents of Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, and other communities have to get their cars tested?
Effective January 1, 2004, vehicles which are more than four years old and commute into Bernalillo County 60 or more days per year are required to be tested.

(sorry dude)

how would they know if you commute into Bernalillo County 60 or more days a year? What does enforcement entail?

Interesting....

So this is totally unrelated but....
(from a different part of the same site http://www.cabq.gov/aircare/smoveh.html)

Black Smoke-Black smoke is the result of partially-burned fuel being carried down the exhaust. This unburned fuel is wasteful, expensive, and a carcinogen.

Blue Smoke-Pale, bluish-white smoke is the result of engine lubricating oil being burned in the engine's combustion chamber. This is normally due to worn valve guides or piston rings and requires extensive engine repair.

if we believe this, than what color is this?

Onur,
After you get your beater, *you* probably won't know how many days you are driving the 80 in Bernalillo county. IANAL, but I wouldn't worry about it (or the beater.)

What does Cdan do about emissions?

Beno, fret not!

That stupid rule you mention is unenforceable and probably not even legal should someone fight it. They were talking about having "people" stake out the parking lots of large employers in ABQ and checking plate numbers. Absolute fantasy. Register your rig here and forget it.

C-Dan does the same thing I do here in Corrales about emissions - nothing.

Thanks Greg, Rory, and Beo!!

I'm going to wait for the registration to get close to renewal for my OH plates, (late 07) and then I'll go ahead and register it here and be done with it.

I can't wait for a beater....I want the cruiser off the road!

Rory,
Sweet smell = coolant
Oily smell = oil (duh)

You should notice increased consumption of either oil or coolant.

The enforcement issue is the question. Since this is the USA I doubt it will become enforceable - at least I hope not. Marty Chavez (Alb mayor) is a little weak when it comes to defending the Constitution - and that's being kind.

How is your 80's fuel economy?

When you do finally show up at the MVD to switch the registration, you'll need to remember to lie about when you moved here because there is a 30-day rule (I think it's 30 days) for when you establish residency and when you get a NM driver's license and title/register the vehicle in NM. They'll likely charge you penalties if they figure out you've been here longer than that. I'd call them just to verify all my statements are accurate though - their website sucks.

The Constitution is quaint (like the Geneva Conventions), and has been repealed so's we can be safe and secure.
Go ahead, take my freedoms, I wasn't using them anyway.
