Someone also suggested cutting up milk crates and joining the sides together with chain or something.

That's a great idea!

Try searching for 'maxtrax' on Youtube. There are a few vids on there of them in use.

These are becoming trendy in Aus............

Nice product. Why would you want metal one when you can get nylon like these. I like the orange color too and they are only 8 lbs. But I just did the currency conversion and they are $275 for one  Everything looked good until the price.

HI to all, well it´s nice to see that many people like the idea, even if we don´t need it, but for serious jungle or mountains trip on rainy seasons you can expect anything on the trail. I´m from PR living at this moment in Florida,¨¨¨¨¨¨Do you drive sand, or not? That would answer your question.¨¨¨¨ we have big mountains and many trails in PR, one day you can found a nice trail and next week you will have to go back to home if you don´t have all the little´s ¨toys¨to make your own way on that same trial !!!!

I would like to built my 1987 fj-60 expedition type so when i move back to PR i will enjoy more the beautiful mountains and beers .......Sometimes if better have a Gun and never use it than need it and get ~~~~~$#$%&%&%&%

Sand ladders just for the "looks" while at the mall? I hope someone steals them to mount them on a Honda. Would do just as much good for them.
IF (a big if) you NEED them they are appropriate. Otherwise, they will just kill your fuel economy, lighten your pocket book, and make a Cruiser look stupid.
IMHO

All that could apply to that Warn you are about to install as well, except the plastic maxtrax weigh 8lbs:D

True enough!

but, if this is your only rig it might be of consideration. My white rhino is a simple mountain rig. My best guess would be that strapping ramps to your roof will create more wind drag than an ARB though...oh, and my LT1 gets better mpg's than the 6 anyways.

I can take those words for someone that drive a little Honda car, or another gas saver car,we talk about people that love mountains and trails, people that dont need a Mud Suv or a Land Cruiser for buy groceries at the mall..in that case they don't feel likes Us here.

If this FJ looks ¨Stupid¨ then it´s better that i sells mine and spend my time playing Xbox on sundays.....

I prefer the bridging ladders (obviously) since they'll do the work of a sand ladder but it'll also support the weight of the vehicle. I can climb a vertical wall about 3 feet high by making ramps out of them. Or cross a ravine or crack without losing body parts. They're nice to have, and relatively light.

Or just air down a bit...

I have driven in the sand a lot, and never have been in a situation that a bit less air has not gotten me out of trouble.

i can see these being usefull in mud more so than anything.
like mace said in sand usually airing down a couple more psi can get you out unless you went stupid and just floored it.

in the case of mud a couple extra psi doesnt usually help much and if knowone else is around to pull you out (bad idea in the first place) then they would prolly be usefull at some point in time.
