Does anyone know if the state of Arizona collects sales tax on used auto purchases if the purchase is made out of state from an individual?

I know Arizona collects sales tax on used vehicles if sold/bought in state from a dealer, but they do not collect if bought from an individual in the state.

I know they obviously collect sales tax if you buy a vehicle out of state from a dealer and that dealer does not charge sales tax at the time of sale.

I do not know if Arizona will assess sales tax if you buy a used vehicle out of state from an individual?

Anyone know this for sure?

thanks

I purchased my 62 in Texas and was not charged/assessed any sales tax by the state of Arizona.

I have also purchased a used vehicle person to person from another state(CA). No sales tax was charged at the DMV in AZ. Hope this helps.

Same here. out of state 40 and no taxes assesed.

Excellent...thanks for the feedback 3 for no tax...good.

No Sales tax from private party from any state. It use to be that when you bought a veh from a dealer out of state they wouldn't charge either....my wife's 323 was like that but within the 12mo or so till I got mine that had changed. Now they charge from any dealer...but not fromm any private party.

Yep, ditto this. Just went through it twice last year. One (Avalon) from a dealer and I paid tax. 80 from private party, no tax.
